Vegan Halva-Pistachio Cream Brownies Recipe

I’ve always loved Halva. I remember when I was only a child, my father would take me to Wadi Nisnas in Haifa and there was a store where we’d buy the best Halva in the world.

Truth is, I haven’t had Halva in a long time and having missed the taste of it I’ve decided to make up a recipe containing it as one of the main ingredients.

So if you love Halva as much as I do and feel like having a crazy-delicious and easy-to-make dessert, this post is just for you!

Vegan Halva-Pistachio Cream Brownies

Recipe Ingredients

Brownie ingredients:

1 cup walnuts

1 cup Medjool dates

1 medium carrot, grated

1 tsp vanilla extract

1.5 tsp cocoa

Pinch of salt

¼ cup coconut oil

¼ cup unroasted hazelnuts

Halva-Pistachio cream ingredients:

½ cup peeled pistachios

3 tbsp tahini

5 tbsp date honey or your choice of sweetener

1.5 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup liquid coconut cream or coconut milk

Pinch of salt

¼ cup coconut oil


Brownie preparation:

Throw all the brownie ingredients (EXCEPT the hazelnuts) into a food processor and grind into an even creamy mixture.

Cut all hazelnuts into halves and incorporate them into the mixture.

Flatten the mixture into a form or onto baking paper so it’s about 2 cm high, and stick everything in the freezer for half an hour.

Cream preparation:

While our mixture is resting safely in the freezer, we’ll prepare the Halva cream. Using a powerful blender or food processor, mix the ingredients into a thick, smooth cream.

After taking the mixture out of the freezer, spread a 1-cm layer of cream over it. Put the whole thing back in the freezer for an hour.

Spread a bit of pistachio crumbs over the brownies for decoration, and they are ready to serve.

Keep the leftovers in the freezer.

And if you have some leftover Halva cream? Spread it on a piece of toast for breakfast!
