Hi, I’m Natalie Houlding. I am a native Israeli, who’s been living in England for the last 4 ½ years, and soon to move to Brisbane – Australia, with my husband Terry and our nearly 3yr old daughter – Ocean.
My family and I have been vegan now for close to a year and a half.
I believe it was always there in me, but life and its associated distractions always got in the way until finally, with the opportunity to live my own way; I made the transition to veganism and have never looked back.
With time to spare, I began learning as much as I could about being vegan. It helped that my knowledge about cooking was always there, (I love to eat!) I was just using the wrong ingredients!
Since I became vegan, my friends back home kept asking me questions and it became apparent that veganism in Israel is taking off in a big way with people much more aware as to what it’s about. This is why I decided to open up my own blog (‘theVlog’) to share and promote veganism. I realised I needed more tools than just being compassionate to animals. I wanted to educate and populurize it rather than share shocking images of animal cruelty which can be helpful but also very negative and off putting to would be vegans.
My personal motto is that we shouldn’t tell people what they can’t do, but guide them as to what they can do.
It helps that my other passion is photography. I love my job as a wedding photographer as well as doing infant and new-born photography. I’ve tried to use my talent to bring out vegan cooking in the best way. I wanted to emphasize its versatility, colour and the variety to show how tasty it can be as well as build on its current reputation of being healthy.
I’m also a prolific writer for various websites and Facebook groups that deal with vegan lifestyle and I’m delighted to be part of The Vegan Woman team.
